Barriers and opportunities in utilizing maternal healthcare services during antenatal period in urban slum settings in India: A systematic review

BackgroundIn urban slums, pregnant women are a high-risk group with limited access to health facilities due reported barriers utilization of maternal services linked sociodemographic variations in few studies.ObjectiveOur objective is assess and opportunities the current healthcare during antenatal period slum settings followed by development conceptual framework utilizing this information promote slums.MethodsA search was conducted using PubMed articles published from January 2011 May 2022. The terms used were combination ‘maternal services, ‘antenatal care’, ‘urban slums’, ‘India. Results: A total eleven studies met inclusion criteria critically appraised two independent reviewers retrieve relevant information. Most them cross-sectional surveys only one study randomized trial that slums Delhi Mumbai. most common age included all 15–49 years. different found review include poor healthcare, cost, prior experience, domestic responsibility, long distance facility, waiting time at hospital, non-co-operative hospital staff, multiparity, lack information, low literacy.ConclusionAccessibility dwellers still subjected hazards unsafe home deliveries. It imperative address such as accessibility, time, staff behaviour, efforts improve literacy. We also proposed develop an Artificial Intelligence guided tool will help identify pregnancies so they can be motivated avail more efficiently.
